Karen Kaminski, Ph.D, Associate Professor Program Chair

Dr. Karen Kaminski has been part of the Master of Education with a Specialization in Adult Education and Training since 1999. She has years of experience as an instructional designer helping faculty to prepare to teach via distance technology. Karen's research focus is on instructional design, evaluation, and learning transfer. In addition to traditional courses, she facilitates sessions on group work, communication, and collaboration and consults in the areas of instructional design and development, assessment and evaluation, and instructional technology.

Jeffrey Foley, Ph.D. Assistant Professor


Dr. Jeffrey M. Foley is an assistant professor in the School of Education at Colorado State University. After attending CSU and earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, Jeff spent 20 years as an outdoor educator, mountain guide, and emergency services technician. Jeff earned a Master of Education with a Specialization in Adult Education and Training from CSU. During this time Jeff served as an adjunct instructor and program coordinator for the Outdoor Studies program at Colorado Mountain College. Jeff completed his Ph.D. in education at CSU. Jeff's research focuses on experiential learning, learning transfer, and adult learner self-world view.

Dr. Don Quick is an assistant professor with the School of Education at Colorado State University. His research focuses on adult teaching and learning and distance technology in higher education. His work history includes several years of experience in the computer industry as technician, engineer, trainer, and manager. He has also developed and taught several workshops and courses in adult learning, health and safety, and computer applications, and has been teaching online Adult Education and Training courses since 1999.

Don Quick, Ph.D, Assistant Professor

Dr. Leann M.R. Kaiser is an assistant professor in the School of Education, Adult Education and Training Specialization at Colorado State University. She graduated from the University of Wyoming with her Ph.D. in Adult and Post Secondary Education. She also holds a B.S. from the University of Wyoming and an M.S. from Arizona State University, both in outdoor education/recreation. Leann's research interests encompass adult teaching and learning theory, transformational learning, and distance student educational experiences. Leann has taught in the fields of adult education and outdoor education at the post-secondary level since 2001. Additional professional experiences include work in natural resource education programming and public land management.

Dr. Tobin Lopes has been practicing and studying the field of workforce education and development since 1995. In addition to his work with Colorado State University, he most recently developed the curriculum for an executive-level hybrid graduate program for the University of Colorado Denver and was a workforce policy analyst for the City and County of Denver. He holds a Ph.D. in Workforce Education and Development with a minor in Applied Statistics from Pennsylvania State University. He believes strongly in the importance of critical thinking and meta-cognition. He works hard to provide a respectful and transformative learning environment online and in person. He's an AET grad himself, a father of two, and husband of one, and loves to play board games. Tobin's research interests include evaluation and assessment, hybrid learning and teaching methods for adults, career development, and quantitative research methods.

Orly S. Penny, M.Ed.

InstructorTeaching English as a Second Language to Adult Learners
Orly Penny earned her Master in Education with an Adult Education and Training specialization at Colorado State University. Her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Art History was obtained at the University of Colorado. She has taught ESL to adults for the past fifteen years at various Northern Colorado institutions, and is dedicated to helping her students realize their potential as language learners. The course she teaches and developed is based on the Colorado Department of Education rubrics for training Teachers of Adult ESL Learners. Orly also developed a workplace English program for Poudre Valley Health System (PVHS) employees and obtained a grant to sponsor the program. She is the Past President of the Colorado Adult Education Professional Association (CAEPA) and sits on the Advisory Board of the Center for Adult Learning at Front Range Community College.

Karen Carr, M.Ed.
My name is Karen Carr. I have been working in education for 22 years and in adult education for 18 of them. I love to learn and meet new people. I live in Lafayette, CO with my husband, two cats, and one dog. My side job is a paramedic so if you see me in a uniform, don't be surprised.
